I'm Nikki McGar, founder of Nikki McGar Interiors, based in Barwon Heads and working across Geelong, the Bellarine Peninsula and the Surf Coast, including Jan Juc, Bells Beach, Aireys Inlet, Lorne and Wallington, along with select projects in Melbourne.
How I Got Here
After relocating to the Peninsula, I joined Greenhouse Interiors, where I trained under renowned stylist and interiors writer Julia Green. That mentorship shaped everything about how I work today, it's where I learned just how much art, colour and layering can transform a space, and where my appreciation for bold, personality-filled design really took hold.
My Approach to Design
I believe a home should feel like you, not like a showroom. Every project I take on, from full home renovations and new builds through to furniture and styling, starts with the people who'll actually live in the space. From there, I layer in art, colour and texture until a room feels both deeply personal and genuinely elevated.
Colour doesn't scare me, it excites me. I'm known for a fearless use of it, and for blending vintage charm with a modern edge so spaces feel collected over time rather than bought in one hit. It's this approach that saw one of my recent renovations, the Wallington Project, featured in the Geelong Advertiser for its bold use of colour and considered styling.
Whatever the scope, the goal is always the same: a home that feels completely, unmistakably yours.
